2010 Prayer for the National Leaders
by Franklin Graham – 2010 Honorary Chairman
Lord,
We are thankful for the abundant blessings You have bestowed on America. Our forefathers looked to You as Protector, Provider, and the Promise of hope. But we have wandered far from that firm foundation. May we repent for turning our backs on Your faithfulness.
We pray that this great nation will be restored by Your forgiveness.
From bondage, You grant freedom.
Through Your own sacrifice, You offer salvation.
From the state of despair, You offer peace.
From the bounties of Heaven, You have blessed – not because of our goodness – but by Your grace.
You have given us freedom to worship You in spirit and in truth as Your holy Word instructs. May our lives honor You in word and deed. May our nation acknowledge that all good things come from the Father above.
President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed that our nation should set apart a day for national prayer to confess our sins and transgressions in sorrow, “yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon… announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord.”
“We have vainly imagined in the deceitfulness of our own hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own… we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God who made us! It behooves us then… to confess our national sins and to pray for clemency and forgiveness.”
Help us to pray earnestly for our president and leaders who govern, that they will humble themselves and seek Your guidance so that everything we do will shine the light of Your glory in a darkened world.
May our prayers as a people and a nation be heard and blessed for such a time as this. We make this plea in faith, believing in the mighty name of Jesus our Lord.
Amen

Prayer = Love
Prayer works in the context of relationship. Once the relationship is established, you will find that prayer is its natural expression. It is simply speaking and listening to your Heavenly Father. God wants to answer our prayers. Answered prayer is how He manifests Himself in our life and makes this relationship personal “For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.” Prayer is the intimacy that flows spontaneously from a loving relationship.
Imagine that you went into a restaurant with your father. Imagine that you and your father ordered your meals, and when the waiter brought them to your table, he said to your father, “That looks delicious. I want to try a bite of that!” Then imagine the waiter picks up a fork and helps himself to a bite from your father’s plate. It would be inappropriate. You would be offended. You would demand an apology.
Now imagine that you and your father ordered your meals, the waiter brought them to your table, and you said to your father, “That looks delicious. I want to try a bite of that!” Imagine that you pick up a fork and help yourself to a bite from your father’s plate. It would be natural. Your father would be happy to share his meal with you. It would be an accepted intimacy.
What is the difference between the two scenarios? Not the words. Not the actions. Not the intention. The difference is the relationship. The child has access to the father that the stranger does not. (Adapted from Live a Praying Life by Jennifer Kennedy Dean)
Prayer starts with the relationship.
Have you found that prayer does not work for you? Perhaps you need to start with the relationship.
What Makes Prayer Work?
It’s all about a relationship!
God has created mankind so that we naturally hunger for a relationship with Him. He has built that yearning for Himself into our frame; He has encoded eternal longings in our spiritual DNA structure. The Scripture says, “He has also set eternity in the hearts of men” (Eccl. 3:11). The famous theologian, C.S. Lewis, wrote “If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world.” (Mere Christianity)
Prayer is the bridge between Heaven and Earth. It is the conduit through which the spiritual realm is brought into our everyday lives. Prayer is the way our spirits breathe. Just as our lungs require oxygen and are designed to seek it out, so our spirits require the presence of God and are designed to seek Him out. Without His presence, we are left gasping for meaning and desperately seeking our purpose in life. We find ourselves trying our best to pray because it is as needful as air for our lungs. Prayer is the method God uses to provide not only our daily needs from food to shelter but also comfort, strength and guidance. The late E. Stanley Jones, missionary and preacher, wrote, “Prayer … is the opening of a channel from my emptiness into His fullness.” (Abundant Living)
Answers depend on the relationship!
You find yourself drawn to prayer, curious about prayer, or even desperate for prayer. Maybe you’ve tried prayer and prayer has failed you. Maybe you can point to unanswered prayer after unanswered prayer, proving that prayer doesn’t work.
Does that describe you?
Welcome! You are at this Web site because God wants you to understand how you can have a fulfilling relationship with Him that will turn prayer from a fruitless exercise to an exciting adventure.
Prayer Statistics
Recent Survey by PARADE Magazine
“Our nation was built on a foundation of strong faith, and in some respects, that hasn’t changed. In fact, 69% of Americans believe in God, 77% pray outside of religious services and 75% believe it’s a parent’s responsibility to give children a religious upbringing. As books with titles like God is Not Great and The God Delusion have climbed the best-seller lists in recent years, sociologists have speculated about a new atheism in the U.S. – NO SUCH THING according to Parade’s survey – only 5% of respondents didn’t believe in God. In fact, 67% said they pray regularly because it brings them comfort and hope.”
The PARADE Spirituality Poll as conducted by Insight Express among a national online panel of adults ages 18 and over. Surveys were completed by 1,051 respondents May 8-12, 2009.

Praying, Fasting & Caring
for the Lent Season
•Beware of Terrorist Groups that have been operating in the Church.
Latest news reports are that five terrorist cell groups have been
secretly operating in many of our churches.
•They have been identified as:
•Bin Sleepin, Bin Arguin, Bin Fightin, Bin Complainin, and Bin Missin.
Their leader, Lucifer Bin Workin, trained these groups to destroy the
Body of Christ. The plan is to come into the church disguised as
Christians and to work within the church to discourage, disrupt, and destroy.
•However, there have been reports of a sixth group. A tiny cell known by
the name Bin Prayin is actually the only effective counter terrorism force in
the church. Unlike other terrorist cells, the Bin Prayin team does not blend in
with whoever and whatever comes along. Bin Prayin does whatever is needed
to uplift and encourage the Body of Christ. We have noticed that the Bin Prayin
cell group has different characteristics than the others. Bin Prayin have Bin Watchin,
Bin Waitin, Bin Fastin, and Bin Longin for their Master, Jesus Christ to return.
NO CHURCH IS EXEMPT!

•HINDERANCES TO PRAYER•
Learn to recognize and deal with these basic hindrances to effective praying.
Hindrance: Scripture:
1. Un confessed sin Psalm 66:18
If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear.
Solution—Pure heart—Confess all known sin; by faith, claim God’s forgiveness.
2. Selfishness James 4:3
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”;
Solution– Pure motives Prayer for God’s glory
3. Praying for show Matthew 6:5-7
“And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. •But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.
Solution—Pray to God
4. Proud Spirit Luke 18:9-14 •Also He spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
“Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other men—extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.’ •And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Solution—Develop a humble, broken spirit
5. Unresolved conflicts Matthew 5:23-24 •Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you,
Solution—Obtain and maintain a clear conscience before all men.
6. Unforgiving spirit Mark 11:25-26 “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.” Solution—Forgive others, as God has forgiven you.
7. Lack of compassion Proverbs 21:13
• Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor Will also cry himself and not be heard. •for the needs of others
Solution—Give out of your abundance to meet the needs of others.
8. Giving up too soon Luke 11:5-10; •And He said to them, “Which of you shall have a friend, and go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves; for a friend of mine has come to me on his journey, and I have nothing to set before him’; and he will answer from within and say, ‘Do not trouble me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give to you’? I say to you, though he will not rise and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give him as many as he needs.“So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
Luke 18:1 Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart, Solution— •Persistence—Perseverance in prayer until God answers.
9. Lack of fervency James 5:16 •Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
Solution— •Pray earnestly and fervently.
10. Unbelief Mark 11:22-24 •So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God.
For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain,
•‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.
Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.
•Solution— •Exercise faith in the power of God.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
•Remember, effective praying will be . . .
• FOCUSED
• Pray specifically. Avoid vague generalities.
• FERVENT
• Isaiah lamented, “There is none that stirreth up himself
to take hold of God.” Pray with earnest desire for God to meet us in this crisis hour.
• FREQUENT
• Don’t give up! Persist in daily prayer, if need be, for
years, until God sends revival.
• FAITH-BELIEVING
• Expect God to answer! Meet His conditions
and claim His promises.
(January 1-31, 2010)
God’s Throne has no office hours!
Matthew 6:5-8
“5—And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
6—But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut the door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
7—And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words.
8—Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.”
